It’s no secret that TroutRoutes is the best map in fly fishing. It gets you to the water, shows you who owns the banks, and even provides gauge data for you. What it doesn’t do, however, is tell you how to fish once it’s led you there. That’s where Rivus comes in.
What TroutRoutes does best
TroutRoutes maps more than 50,000 trout streams across 48 states, and layers on land ownership, 280,000-plus access points, and offline maps for the canyons with no signal. It even reads the USGS gauges for you. If your question is where can I go and can I legally fish it, nothing beats it.
Where the two apps split
TroutRoutes shows you the map and the raw gauge number. Rivus reads them. It won’t tell you whether that flow is good or blown out for your stretch, what’s hatching right now, or what to tie on. That’s the water Rivus lives in.
What Rivus does that a map cannot
Rivus takes today’s flow, water temperature, weather, and hatch for the exact stretch under your boots and tells you the play, then it changes its answer as the day moves. It shows you the fly to match, with a picture, from your own box, and Eddy’s there when the bite quits. TroutRoutes hands you a gauge number. Rivus tells you what that number means for the fish today.
Use both
TroutRoutes gets you to the water. Rivus tells you how to fish it once you’re there. Plenty of anglers carry both.
